The Shutdown

After the killing of Abu Sayed on 16 July, the government shifted from a defensive posture to a nationwide one. On 18 July 2024, internet and mobile-data services were shut down across the country. A curfew was imposed, and the army, the Rapid Action Battalion, and the Border Guard Bangladesh were deployed alongside the police. Multiple outlets described the curfew as shoot-on-sight.
